Suggestions for power controller

I have decided to plunge back into the world of railway modelling after about 45 years of abstinence. Can anyone recommend a power controller that will operated 2 - 3 separate tracks, 00, not DCC, and not break the bank?

Re: Partick Central (KelvinHall) Station

Jane, Don't forget that Partick Central was on the Lanarkshire & Dumbartonshire line, not the GCR. Partick Central and Crow Road were the only station buildings on this line that were mounted on bridges, most other stations were island platforms on embankments, with the station offices at street...

Re: Aberdeen Ferryhill

Mike, Regarding your question regarding the signal box, I have searched through the CRA drawings archive and the only drawings for Ferryhill are a signal gantry and a signal bridge. I have a collection of signal box drawings from various sources which unfortunately does not include Ferryhill. In Jim...

Here are a few close-ups, without straying beyond the GCR (all from photos in my recent articles).

Re: Partick Central (KelvinHall) Station

Here are the only two photos I have of Crow Road which show the lamp bracket and neither are very clear. The Bluebell photo is a thumbnail from their catalogue, you might want to buy a print from them for greater clarity.

Hi Trawest,

Here are some detail photos. Unfortunately the fanlight windows had been covered up by the time I took the photos.

Re: Lanark Station Staff Photograph

It is the poster that really interests me. At first I wondered if the photo had been taken at a different station - the name of which ended in '..town', such as Holytown or Overtown, but the tree in the background existed at Lanark station. I suppose 'Lanark Town' could distinguish from 'Lanark Race...

Re: Glasgow Central Low Level Station

My thinking is that the CR knew that the site on the east side of Hope Street would shortly be used to extend the High Level station westwards, and made the sensible decision to build the temporary stone station building on the same site as the temporary wooden building - on the west side of Hope St...

Re: Where is this?

Guys, I'm not so sure. The uploaded photos below show a stone base and low-ish tank. Michael's photo shows a higher timber base and taller tank. These photos show the tank being parallel with the track while Michael's is angled.

Where is this?

I attach a photo sent to me by Michael Dunn, asking if I could identify the location. My initial thought was Stirling but the water tower there was of slightly different design and the background buildings don't match (see CR-era photo on page 159 of Campbell's "The Classic Years" book). H...

Callander - what is going on here?

Alisdair Macdonald and I have been trying to work out what is going on in this photo. We initially thought that this was an excursion train (due to the big crowd of people) loading prior to departure. However we are now questioning this. If this is a departing excursion train why are the passengers ...

Re: Glasgow Central Low Level Station

Alisdair, That is a good suggestion. We have been so focussed on trying to find any reference which would explain how the platform was used, that other reasons for the design were not thought about. I see that there was a similar feature at Stobcross (see photo) - possibly also protecting heavy stee...

Re: Line Diagrams

My view is that it depends on what is being sold. The images up to the one with ‘page 37’ at the footer are pages from the True Line (parts of my series of articles which started in True Line 35). If he is selling pages cut from these issues, I see that being no different to selling the original mag...

I assume that you saw the Doune station drawings in True Line 34. Send me a PM if you want the original sheets from which I took these (they have additional information on them).

Re: Mistakes in "Caledonian Railway Miscellany".

My thinking on plate 174 (see attachment) is that the train could be heading out of Dunblane in the Callander direction, after line doubling in the early 20th Century. The junction signals would be those facing the photographer in the right distance, with the main line crossing the photo out of sigh...

Re: Mistakes in "Caledonian Railway Miscellany".

Michael,

Your use of the word 'mistake' is too strong. You did the best you could with the information available, and as with the forum and the True Line, it is a process of information sharing and learning from each other. The book is very good and I don't consider that it contains mistakes.
